Norwegian American Hospital hosted a first of its kind quality and safety symposium in Chicago, focused on advancing patient safety and quality of care in the urban safety-net environment. The theme of the symposium was “Excellence Beyond Survival: Improving Quality and Safety in Chicago Safety-Net Hospitals” and featured keynote speaker Julie Hamos, Director of the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services.

Testament to Hospital’s Process Improvements in Quality and Patient Safety
Norwegian American Hospital is proud to announce they have scored above the national average in the areas of Quality, Resource Use and Value as published by The Leapfrog Group. These Hospital Safety Scores are publicly reported by Leapfrog annually to provide usable information related to hospital safety. The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization committed to encouraging safer and higher quality of care in hospitals around the country.
The results of the 2013 survey show that Norwegian American Hospital exceeded the national average score for Quality by 14 percent, Resource Use by 2 percent and Value by 10 percent. Compared to 2012, Norwegian American Hospital improved its Quality score by 235 percent and its Resource Use score by an incredible 408 percent. The Value score, which is comprised of both the Quality and Resource Use scores, grew by 282 percent.
Norwegian American Hospital continues to make significant progress in its commitment to be at the forefront of quality care and patient safety. Building a culture of safety is at the forefront of the hospital’s new leadership, and they have engaged all staff, including physicians and the Board of Trustees in the journey to ensure quality and safety measures are being practiced to the highest degree throughout the hospital at all times.
